Itinerary


On arrival in San José, Costa Rica, you will be welcomed at Juan Santamaría International Airport and transferred to your hotel.

San José, the capital of Costa Rica is located in the middle of the central valley and the centre of the country and is considered one of the most cosmopolitan cities in Latin America. The city features popular tourist attractions, such as historical buildings, museums, theatres, artisan markets, beautiful parks, shopping centres, and a varied gastronomic scene. It became a strategic place from which to make endless daily activities.

In the morning, you will depart for the Pacuare River, renowned as one of the best 10 rivers in the world for its scenic beauty and its rapids. Along the way, you will cross the Braulio Carrillo National Park, the largest in the central region. En route, you will make a stop for a typical Costa Rican breakfast.

When you get to the rafting put-in at the Pacuare River, you will be outfitted with your equipment and meet your guides. Then, you will begin your exciting white water rafting adventure for about 1.5 hours until you arrive at the lodge. Lunch will be at the lodge or by the river. Your lodge is an eco-paradise nestled in virgin rainforest alongside the Pacuare River. You can hike the lodge’s trails or relax in a hammock or your room in the afternoon.

In the evening, you will have dinner at the lodge.

Today you will wake up listening to the songs of birds and the relaxing sound of the river. You have the opportunity to hike up in the mountains to Cabécar indigenous community (about 2.5 hours each way), one of the largest indigenous groups living in the remote Talamanca region of eastern Costa Rica. They speak Cabécar, one of sixteen remaining languages in the Chibchan language family of the Isthmo-Colombian Area. Afterwards, you will return to the lodge for a delicious lunch.

In the afternoon, you will relax at the lodge. Dinner tonight is at the lodge.

You will start the day with an incomparable adventure of rafting down the Pacuare River, descending class 3 and 4 rapids through a spectacular rainforest gorge. You will finish by the town of Siquirres.

You will have lunch and get ready to be transferred to the Northern Plains, where the impressive Arenal Volcano awaits you. Majestic in its grand stature, the volcano is one of the country’s natural wonders and the most popular of Costa Rica’s volcanic giants. The Arenal Volcano (1,670 m) towers over the surrounding fertile landscape with plantations producing the best coffee in the world. While the volcano is quiet nowadays and there are no lava eruptions, you can still see clouds of smoke or ash emanating from the top of the cinder cone. The symmetrical cone-shaped Arenal Volcano erupted in the past an average of 41 times a day and while it currently slumbers, Arenal and the surrounding more area are a great base for touring. You can also enjoy the plentiful hot springs in the area. Along your journey to the town of La Fortuna, at the base of the volcano, you will see agricultural plantations, large ornamental plant nurseries, and cattle farms.

On this day of Costa Rica Active Adventure Tour you will enjoy one of the most extreme adventures offered in Arenal - the Gravity Falls canyoning tour. You will begin with a rappel alongside a thunderous 140-foot waterfall. When you reach the bottom, you will have to jump into the pool and swim to the shore. You will then take on a series of cliff jumps ranging from a 10-foot technical jump to a 30-foot jump from another waterfall, as you swim, float, climb, walk, and manoeuvre through this secluded and exclusive canyon. You will have lunch during the tour.

After breakfast at the hotel, you will go to Monteverde. Encompassing rainforest, cloud forest, and spectacular biodiversity, Monteverde has one of the rarest and most unique habitats on the planet, not to mention an astonishing variety of flora and fauna. Its strategic position straddling the Continental Divide between the Caribbean and the Pacific coasts creates the rare cloud forest, a distinctive microclimate for the many unique species that inhabit this area. You will experience beautiful landscapes during your journey and see how locals live when passing typical small villages.

Get ready for a day of adventure to experience the cloud forest at all levels. First, you will experience a zip line tour, crossing the forest canopy while suspended on cables using specialized mountaineering equipment. On the last cable, you can ride Superman-style. Additionally, you can swing on the famous Tarzan Swing while being tied to a high-security rope. The entire tour is an incredible experience, comparable to flying through the forest.

In the morning, you will head to Costa Rica’s northern Pacific coast in the Guanacaste region. This province has earned a name for itself as a tropical paradise with an unspoiled coastline, beautiful mountains, and majestic volcanoes. Since Guanacaste spans the northwestern corner of Costa Rica, it should come as no surprise that this lively province is home to some of the country’s most beautiful beaches.

You will have the afternoon free explore the vibrant town of Tamarindo, home to a large international community and enjoy the beach. If you think about a true tropical paradise, it will surely be a place like Tamarindo. It is one of the most beautiful beaches in Costa Rica and has an extremely popular reputation among visitors. This is a very popular destination among tourists due to its modern development, as well as the paved roads where there are so many activities for all kinds of more tastes.

This morning you will ride ATVs along the trails in the dry tropical forest on a private farm. You will discover beautiful panoramic views of the coast and unique flora and fauna native to the Guanacaste region. You will see fantastic Guanacaste trees, Costa Rica’s national tree, and wildlife like monkeys, coatis, armadillos, and birds. Your tour will finish with a delicious, traditional Costa Rican meal.

Today you will have a free day to enjoy in the serenity of this tropical paradise the sea, the sun, the sand and the beach. Tamarindo is a very popular destination among tourists due to its modern development where you will find cafes, a variety of restaurants, bars, shops, art galleries, among others.

Tamarindo Beach is a long beach (3 km) with nice white sand, excellent waves, coastal charm and world class sunsets. This is definitely a jewel where you will have free time to practice surf or enjoy the views of the beach and the ocean on your own.
