Itinerary


On arrival in Vilnius, Lithuania you will be welcomed at the airport and transferred to the hotel.

The rest of the day is free.

Overnight in Vilnius.

In the morning, you will enjoy a guided tour of Vilnius. It is famous for being the most baroque city in the Nordic Europe, for all these little narrow streets and for beautiful panorama with the numerous belfries. During the tour you will visit the following attractions: Vilnius Cathedral and the Cathedral Square, Town Hall square, Russian Orthodox Church of the Holy Spirit, St. Anne’s and St. Bernardine Churches known as the Gothic corner of Vilnius, the Gate of Dawn with the holy image of the Virgin Mary, the Jewish ghetto, Vilnius University, Presidential Palace and the Sts. Peter and Paul’s Church, referred as the pearl of Lithuania for the white and gorgeous decorations made by Italian craftsmen.

In the afternoon, you will have free time to enjoy lunch on your own.

After lunch, you will visit Kernave – the first and the oldest Lithuanian capital that was built in 13th more century by the river Neris on 5 mounds. The place is located about 35 km from Vilnius. Kernave is visited because of a very nice panorama and is famous for its mounds, archaeological sites, historical and cultural monuments. Since 2004, Kernave Archaeological Site is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Overnight in Vilnius.

The day will begin with a 3-hour guided tour of Trakai, located 28 km from Vilnius, where you will discover a beautiful red brick castle built on an island on Lake Galve, one of the deepest lakes in Lithuania. This will be a very relaxing, calm and without rush part of a day, where the visitors will be able to enjoy wonderful sights, learn a bit of the history of Trakai Castle and buy local souvenirs.

In the afternoon, you will have some free time for lunch.

After lunch, you will visit Grutas Park, a socialist realism museum that presents an exposition of what used to stand in Lithuanian towns, squares and streets: Lenin, Stalin and other communist figures, busts and paintings. You will also find various communist posters and other kind of soviet art.

Next, you will visit Druskininkai town, which is situated on the banks of largest Lithuanian river Nemunas and is surrounded by more pine forests. The place is the most famous health resort of the country with modern hotels, spa centres, specialized clinics and sanatoriums.

In the morning, this Lithuania Vacation Package (Top cities and shore excursions) will continue towards Kaunas. On the way you will discover the Open-Air Museum of Lithuania, one of the largest ethnographic open-air museums in Europe that stretches across an area of 195 ha. The museum was established on the picturesque shores of Kaunas Lagoon in Rumsiskes in 1966 and is dedicated to 17th-20th century households of Lithuania. You will visit five different parts of the museum that represent Lithuanian ethnographical regions. Each part of the museum shows the traditions and way of life common to the Lithuanians who lived there. You will also find authentic small towns that were brought here from all over Lithuania to show visitors the past of the country. In the central part of the museum there is a small village built in the style of the early 20th century. You will have the opportunity to see and touch more the old tools, furniture, decorations, clothing and gardens maintained in their original structure and arrangement. It will be a very interesting educational trip, or just a very good way to satisfy your curiosity about Lithuanians and their traditions and culture.

In the afternoon, you will have some free time for lunch.

After lunch, you will enjoy a guided tour of Kaunas - a city known as the temporal Lithuanian capital and the centre of cultural and political life of the country during the period between the two world wars. During the tour you will visit: Kaunas old castle ruins, St. George’s Church, Town Hall square and the Town Hall building, also known as the Kaunas White Swan, Jesuit owned St. Francis Xavier Church, Merchant Guild Houses, Vytautas Church, Perkunas House, Kaunas Cathedral and have a walk through Liberty Avenue, where you will be shown the old Presidential Palace, the Statue of Grand Duke Vytautas and the Square of Unity, where eternal flame burns.

Overnight in Kaunas.

After breakfast, you will depart to the Hill of Crosses famous for thousands of big and little crosses built on an old mound making the place unique in the world. History tells us that at the end of the 19th century people began to put crosses on the hill in memory of the unknown victims of the rebellion against the Russian tsar. The tradition grew stronger and at the beginning of the 20th century the hill became a holy place for all Catholics in the country. Today the Hill of Crosses is not only a religious symbol, but also a symbol of Lithuanian resistance. A special place of crosses and devotion by faith to the homeland that you will not find anywhere in the world. Upon request a short stop can be arranged for a pray at the nearby Franciscan monastery chapel.

In the afternoon, you will have some free time for lunch.

Next, you will visit Palanga – the most favourite summer resort more in Lithuania situated only 25 km far from Klaipeda on the Baltic Sea coast. This town will offer you a wonderful walk on the J. Basanavicius pedestrian alley, which hosts a lot of restaurants, cafes, bars and souvenir shops. Palanga is also famous for the Amber museum which is the only kind in the Baltic States. The museum is housed in a neo-classicist palace built by Count Tyszkiewicz in the 19th century, surrounded by beautiful views. In the museum you can discover various types of amber, insect and plant inclusions, history of amber and processing methods of that precious stone. The amber collection includes 24 thousand objects. A walk to climb Birute Hill, which is actually a promontory of about 22 metres of high dunes, is also recommended.

Overnight in Klaipeda.

On this day in Klaipeda, you will enjoy a 1.5-hour guided tour during which you will visit a German style old town, which has many merchant houses and warehouses with “fachwerk” decorations. You will pass by the theatre square and enjoy a little statue of the Ann of Thar, who is the main character of the traditional German love and marriage song. The song was created by Simon Dach, famous German poet born in Klaipeda in the 17th century. You will also visit the old post building and the symbol of Klaipeda sailing ship Meridianas.

On the way to Nida, you will make a stop at Juodkrante, an old fishermen village, which today has very nice rebuilt summer houses and old fishermen dwellings. You will be shown the Amber bay where last century amber was mined. A visit to the Hill of Witches is a must. This place is famous for carved wooden sculptures related to Lithuanian mythology.

Free more time for lunch.

After lunch, you will visit Nida. You will climb on the top of the dune of Parnidis, from which a scenery similar to the Sahara will reveal in front of your eyes. Later on, you will visit the summer house of the world-famous German writer Thomas Mann and V. K. Mizgiriai amber gallery to discover exceptional art from amber.

Overnight in Klaipeda.

On departure day, you will be transferred from Klaipeda to Vilnius Airport.
